Hudak Takes Rex Ge Fight to the Floor of Ontario Legislature

Queen’s Park – Today MPP Tim Hudak took his fight for Rex Ge to the floor of the Ontario Legislature, by formally questioning the Energy Minister about the case.

“Minister, would you agree with me that Niagara Peninsula Energy went way, way, way too far and they owe Mr. Ge compensation for the destruction of his livelihood?” Hudak asked Minister of Energy Bob Chiarelli during Question Period on Monday, May 25. “You know the company did wrong.”

Since hearing of Rex Ge’s situation, Hudak has said Niagara Peninsula Energy made a major mistake in dealing with the local greenhouse owner, and has called on the utility company to make restitution. Ge suffered $150,000 in damages to his greenhouse business after his hydro was cut off in February for a $362 bill that was late by just 29 days.

“Not only was this a massive screw-up; it was cruel,” said Hudak of the damages caused to Ge, which threaten his business and livelihood.

“Tell Niagara Peninsula Energy to give their heads a shake, do the right thing and pay Mr. G for his damages,” said Hudak to Chiarelli.

In responding to Hudak’s questions, Chiarelli called Ge’s situation “a very significant injustice” and pledged to work with Hudak to bring a positive resolution for Ge.
